Austin Halpern was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1998. He is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast who often carries his photography gear into captivating destinations. He believes, however, that an equally beautiful image can be created in a backyard as on a mountaintop.

While he appreciates classic landscapes featuring recognizable landmarks, Halpern frequently gravitates toward abstract compositions that convey a sense of place rather than a literal depiction. This approach may involve experimenting with shutter speeds to capture the movement of water or using long lenses to compress space and fill the frame. He often revisits locations, believing the strongest images emerge over time through familiarity and understanding.

Austin has his first exhibit here at District Gallery in 2020 in a two-man show with his mentor and fellow artist, Michael Weil. He has studied with accomplished artists at Maine Media Workshops + College, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and Chris Burkard Workshops. His photographs are held in numerous private collections and have been exhibited in a variety of galleries and small businesses across the country. He currently resides in San Francisco.
